Dr. Surendrakumar Bagde, IAS Director General, National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG)
Dr. Surendrakumar Bagde has spent more than 31 years in the Indian Administrative Service. In his extensive career, he has promoted domestic & foreign direct investment in various sectors in the State of Maharashtra and was involved in the formulation of the State’s policies for Information Technology and Biotechnology sectors during his stint at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation. In his last stint in BEST, he has led initiatives of bringing in new models of bus operations and technology induction that has resulted in a complete transformation of bus operations in Mumbai.
While working in the Government of India, Dr. Bagde has dealt with the formulation of a national strategy on bilateral economic cooperation with countries like the USA, Japan, and Canada. He also negotiated the financing of development projects with the Government of Japan for projects in the infrastructure, water supply, and power sectors, which included the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor project.
Dr. Bagde has held the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi.
Dr. Bagde holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai, a degree in Industrial Engineering from IIM, Mumbai, and a PhD in Applied Economics and Management from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Dr. Bagde’s research has appeared in the American Economic Review and the American Sociological Review.
